Great Horned Owl

This owl came to us with a detectable blood-lead level and is unable to fly. X-rays revealed a fractured scapula. Birds with blood-lead levels often lack coordination, which usually results in them colliding with objects or structures they may avoid otherwise. We think this is how she fractured her scapula.

Date Admitted: 9.18.17

Location Found: Shelley, ID

Update: Fluid therapy has helped to bring down her lead to undetectable levels. With plenty of rest, her scapula fracture should heal properly on its own.
