Open: 2017 Lab Technician Internship

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Lab Tech Internship is an opportunity to support data collection and diagnostics for the raptors in rehabilitative care and for TRC’s Resident Raptors team. We are looking for someone who is interested in the work but we do not require prior experience. We are looking for someone who is creative, enthusiastic, and detail oriented. This internship may have exposure to elements of care for both rehab and education animals but will primarily focus on lab diagnostics and data collection.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must 18 years old or older
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work alone
  • No prior experience with the primary duties required, we will train the right applicant

The primary duties will include:

  • Parasitology
    • Microscopic fecal examination (fecal floats, wet mounts, and direct smears)
    • Blood smears
  • Blood Work
    • Complete Blood Counts, Packed Cell Volume, and Total Solids
  • Biological sample collection, packaging and shipping to Wyoming State Vet Lab
  • Necropsies
  • Banding and morphometric data entry
  • Rehab database management
  • Radiograph database management
  • Medical supply inventory
  • Protocols and procedures development
  • Other tests and duties as assigned
