This male American Kestrel came into our clinic after the finders saw it stuck on a barbed wire fence. The bird was alert and flappy, but appeared to have a wing injury which turned out to be a clean amputation of the left digits. Since this bird is missing half the flight feathers on one wing, it is non-releasable. We are treating for any potential pain as well as preventative antibiotics
Update: This Kestrel has found a future forever home at an education center in North Carolina. We are awaiting federal approval to make the transfer.
