This mature Red Tailed Hawk came in from Afton, Wyoming thanks to the help of our staff and volunteers in the area. The hawk has general bruising and trauma, a laceration on the right hip, and is missing a couple of flight feathers on the right wing. The cause of injury is not confirmed, but suspected to be a predator attack. We plan to suture the soft tissue wound, and treat with antibiotics, fluids, and oxygen.
Update: Sutures were determined to be unnecessary, so the wound is being cleaned, lasered, and dressed with antimicrobial ointment regularly. The hawk is out of oxygen and on cage rest in ICU until the wound closes.
