This adult Great Horned Owl was found very weak and unwilling to fly away. Thanks to the Raptor Rescue Network this bird was able to be quickly transported to our facility for care! A full examination discovered the bird is emaciated, dehydrated, suffering from minor head trauma, and has oil residue on it's feathers. Treatment consists of rehydration via fluid therapy, a good diet, and several baths with Dawn soap to clean the feathers.
Update: This owl is eating well on it's own and now has a great weight! The oil is now off of all of the feathers as well. Unfortunately the bird has suffered secondary wounds to it's wrist so we are providing wound care and cage rest for those to heal.
