Our first Swainson's Hawk of the year was admitted due to a deep cut on it's right leg that was accompanied by some bruising as well. Upon admit the bird did not put any weight on it's injured leg, so staff have been giving the bird towels as support and a wrap around the leg to prevent the wound from re-opening. Treatment also includes antibiotics to prevent any infections from developing.
Update: This bird is standing and able to put its full weight on its leg. The wound is healing nicely! The bird is now flight training and building up its endurance.
