This Great Horned was found entangled in a barbed wire fence. Luckily the bird was able to be freed by it's finders and transported the same day thanks to a volunteer member of the Raptor Rescue Network! The bird went into surgery the next day at Jackson Animal Hospital to get several puncture holes and lacerations sutured close. Treatment now includes frequent wound care and antibiotics to prevent infection.
Update: So far there are no signs of infection and the sutures have been removed! The lacerations and puncture wounds are healing great. The bird is on eye drops TID for a keratotic precipitate in the right eye.
