SCHEDULE: 12 Hours per Week. 4 hours a day, for at least 3 days in a row.
The Rehabilitation Internship is an opportunity to learn about raptor rehabilitation through direct, hands-on work in our raptor rehabilitation clinic. This position is available for those looking for an introduction into a career in wildlife rehabilitation. Applicant must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, learn new skills quickly, and be self-motivated. Training will begin with a focus on husbandry and an introduction to the handling of wild raptors, an essential part of the rehabilitation process. Depending on the skill level and abilities of the applicant, training can progress into triage, wound management, administering medications, physical therapy, equipment use and flight conditioning of wild raptors. This position is ideal for a college student or beginning professional looking for rehabilitation experience.
Must 18 years old or older
Strong attention to detail
Strong work ethic, punctual, and a self-starter
Ability to work with dead mice, rats, quail, and rabbit
Ability to work independently and with a team
Must be able to work in all weather conditions
Clear communication style (in person and on the telephone)
Must be able to lift at least 50lbs
Daily raptor care
Daily care, cleaning of enclosures
Handling of rehab patients
Food preparation and feeding
Coordination of patient transport to TRC
Medication administration/on-going patient evaluation
After-hour med administration and patient triage
Small Animal (live mouse, rat and possibly songbird) care
May be used for academic credit. The extern is responsible for making arrangements to receive necessary credits
