Fun Fact: The American Kestrel is the smallest falcon in North America.
Cache hatched in a falconry program in Philadelphia and was raised to be an education ambassador. The name Cache comes from a Kestrels’ caching behavior, in which they will take food that is left over from their prey and hide it in different spots to return to later. American Kestrels are the smallest and most common falcon in North America and have declined an estimated 40% since the 1970s. Cache helps teach us about supporting raptor populations by placing nest boxes in our environment, keeping cats indoors, and reducing the use of pesticides. After all, American Kestrels are a natural pest control that helps manage prey and insect populations!
