Jackson Hole Birding Festival – Nature Journaling Workshop
Enjoy a unique and inspiring outing that blends wildlife, creativity, and hands-on learning!
Your experience begins with a one-hour “Avian Experience” at Teton Raptor Center in Wilson, Wyoming. This state-of-the-art facility is dedicated to advancing raptor conservation through education, research, and rehabilitation. TRC admits over 200 injured, ill, and orphaned birds annually and leads 19 active research projects. You’ll have the rare opportunity to get up close with TRC’s avian ambassadors and learn about their incredible adaptations and conservation stories.
Then, join Idaho conservation artist Mary Arnold for a “Spread Your Wings” Nature Journaling workshop. Designed to teach fun new techniques to further enhance your experience when you are birding, you’ll learn the ins and outs of nature journaling, learning to see and ask questions when observing nature, why and how to journal, and tips and techniques for journaling your birding experiences. You’ll also learn about making your journals distinctly yours with nature printing techniques to embellish and enhance your journal entries.
All supplies and materials are included!
Attendees are asked to bring an old shirt or smock they wouldn’t mind getting a little ink on; curiosity and a questioning mind; and an adventurous spirit to try new techniques and have tons of fun!
You’ll get to take home your Nature Journaling Field Kit, including a journal, a tote, watercolor pencils and brush pen, and lots more!
ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Mary Arnold is a conservation artist, born and raised in Idaho in the farming and rodeo lifestyle. She grew up with animals as her playmates, and was never without a couple dogs as her companions. She built forts in rock piles to hang out and observe the marmots, and she summered in the mountains watching deer and elk. Mary continues to be fascinated with heritage and wildlife, and she uses her art to carry a message of balanced land and animal conservation.
Mary often explores our connection to nature through artist residencies for national parks and land trusts, including Bighorn Canyon NRA, Craters of the Moon Centennial, and most recently Bears Ears National Monument. She’s an Idaho Master Naturalist and serves on the board of the MK Nature Center. Web: www.mgarnoldart.com Instagram: @mgarnoldart
