Buffy is a female Red Tailed Hawk that was deemed unreleasable due to loss of vision in her left eye after being hit by a car in Florida in 2023. She was transferred to the Teton Raptor Center in the spring of 2024, where her left eye was surgically eviscerated. She is highly habituated to people, showing comfort around people, coming forward for food or when the glove is offered, and not showing the typical fear responses you would see in a wild hawk.
Her name “Buffy” comes from the buffy coloration you can see on her chest and belly feathers.
