First up is our vocal, adaptable, and curious male American Kestrel, the smallest falcon native to North America. Hatched in 2023, he’s on the cusp of celebrating his first bird-day! As a dedicated education bird, he journeyed all the way from Pennsylvania to join our cause. Did you know that American Kestrels face threats from habitat loss and environmental toxins, contributing to their declining population in many states? By naming him, you’ll be championing efforts to protect kestrels and spread awareness about their conservation needs. Next, meet our new male Peregrine Falcon, the reigning champion of speed in the animal kingdom! Hatched in 2019, he once soared as a falconry bird before finding his calling as an ambassador for his species in our educational programs. As an anatum, one of the Peregrine Falcon subspecies found in the lower 48 states, he symbolizes the resilience and adaptability of raptors across diverse habitats. This bird is quick to learn new trained behaviors, bathes a lot, and loves to shred newspapers for enrichment.

Submit your top name suggestions for both birds by March 15th, and be part of the magic as we narrow down the choices to the top six names for each bird. Then, in a thrilling bracket-style tournament, the birds themselves will help us select their ultimate monikers! The winning names will be revealed at the end of the month.
