Meet Our Newest Rough-Legged Hawk Ambassador!
We’re excited to introduce a new member of our Avian Ambassador team: Tundra, a Rough-legged Hawk! This species gets its name from the distinctive feathers covering their legs, which help keep them warm in the cold northern climates they inhabit.
Tundra came to TRC after being treated at North Sky Raptor Sanctuary in Michigan. He was struck by a car and left blind in his left eye, an injury that made him unable to return to the wild. His name reflects the snowy, tundra-like ecosystems where Rough-legged Hawks thrive, hunting small rodents like lemmings and voles.
We’re thrilled to have Tundra take an active role in our educational programs. As a representative of one of North America’s most northern-dwelling hawk species, he will help inspire conservation and appreciation for these incredible birds.
