Migration Season in the Roost
As migration season sweeps into the Roost, our avian ambassadors, from Gus the Golden Eagle to Sage the Ferruginous Hawk, feel the compelling pull of spring’s call to journey. To assist our feathered friends in managing their instinctual migratory drive, we conduct daily exercises tailored to their needs. Whether it’s guiding them from glove to glove in flight or providing ample space in the hallway for stretching their legs and wings, we ensure they stay active. Opening their enclosures’ windows exposes them to natural temperatures, aiding in seasonal adjustment and potentially boosting metabolism. As spring unfolds, some birds shed weight with increased activity, prompting adjustments to their food intake. Amidst this transition, some of our avian ambassadors temporarily step back from public programs as they acclimate to the changing season. Moreover, the impending spring molt will impact their appetite and motivation, underscoring the importance of fine-tuning our training methods to accommodate seasonal behaviors and adjust their care regimen accordingly.
