IAATE Conference Presentation on Avian Influenza
TRC’s Education Coordinator, Anna Tobin, recently delivered a compelling presentation at the International Association of Avian Trainers and Educators (IAATE) Conference in Eugene, Oregon. The conference brought together approximately 200 avian trainers and educators worldwide to delve into optimal welfare practices and impactful education programming. Anna’s presentation, titled “HPAI Response & Resiliency,” centered on TRC’s experience with Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) during the winter of 2022. It not only highlighted our successful biosecurity protocols but also underscored the resilience our staff demonstrated in overcoming challenges. Following the presentation, numerous wildlife facility representatives expressed keen interest in implementing our protocols within their own organizations, further extending the reach of our expertise and practices.
TRC staff and volunteers continue to adhere to HPAI protocols to keep the team, Avian Ambassadors, and patients safe. We expect cases to soar again in wild birds as spring migration gets underway. As the risk level increases, we raise our protocol level with increasingly stricter guidelines on how we conduct our programs.
